description Job Description

Looking for an opportunity to shape our future sustainably?

Then, adjusted flow is your place to be!

We are developing a software platform for energy-intensive manufacturers to optimize the use of on-site flexibility in terms of generation and consumption...

Our goal: to drive the energy transition where it has the greatest impact—in industry.

We are just getting started and are currently laying the groundwork for a scalable product. To this end, we are looking for an Energy Forecasting & Optimization Engineer (m/f/d) to support us in building and further developing our platform.

Aufgaben

You will work on the forecasting and optimization core of EOIS for industrial energy optimization. The role combines deterministic and probabilistic forecasting, uncertainty modeling, mathematical optimization, simulation, and production integration for live industrial systems.

  • Develop and improve time-series forecasting models for industrial electricity consumption, PV generation, and other energy-relevant signals
  • Extend and improve forecast services with probabilistic outputs
  • Develop and improve optimization models for industrial energy flexibility, production-related decisions, storage systems, and other controllable assets
  • Evaluate forecasting and optimization quality on noisy, incomplete, and non-stationary industrial data, including their actual operational and economic impact
  • Design how forecasts, uncertainty measures, physical constraints, and system states are used in downstream optimization workflows
  • Build and improve simulation, replay, benchmarking, and validation workflows to test model behavior before and alongside deployment in live systems
  • Improve robustness through plausibility checks, fallback behavior, re-forecasting, and handling of low-confidence or missing data
  • Support validation and technical interpretation of model behavior in real customer environments
Qualifikation

Your Personality Profile

We’re not looking for a perfect checklist—we’re looking for people who think for themselves, ask questions, and are eager to really build something.

  • You don’t wait for someone to tell you what to do; you contribute your own ideas
  • You question things that aren’t working well and bring your own ideas to the table
  • You have no problem disagreeing with us if you’re convinced there are better solutions
  • You’re eager to take on responsibility—even if everything isn’t perfectly defined yet...

In terms of technical skills, you should have experience in several of these areas:

Should have skills

  • strong applied experience in time-series and probabilistic forecasting
  • forecast calibration, uncertainty evaluation, backtesting, and model validation
  • strong understanding of mathematical optimization, especially LP/MILP
  • ability to model real-world systems through objectives, constraints, and operational rules
  • experience combining forecasts, uncertainty, optimization, and LLM-based orchestration of time-series pipelines
  • experience working with noisy and incomplete real-world data
  • ability to turn models into reliable production services

Helpful skills

  • industrial energy systems, electricity markets, PV, BESS, or flexible loads
  • simulation, replay testing, or benchmarking frameworks
  • industrial hardware and control systems
  • basic thermodynamics
  • model deployment, monitoring, or explainability

You don’t have to be an expert in all of these areas. What matters most is that you’re willing to dive deep, understand the underlying problem, and implement robust solutions.

This position is currently funded through a research program until the end of August 2027. We’re working hard to create a long-term perspective and continue the position beyond the program.

Benefits

We offer an environment with a lot of freedom, responsibility, and room for your own ideas. What matters most are the results you create.

  • Own your projects and decide how to approach them
  • Bring in your own ideas and turn them into product improvements
  • Direct influence on product and technical decisions
  • Close teamwork and fast decision-making
  • Work on a meaningful problem: the energy transition in industry
  • Opportunity to grow into a key role as the company grows

We’re still building the foundation, so not everything is predefined—and that gives you the freedom to shape how we work and what we build.

We’re a young and motivated team building something we truly believe in. While we may not offer an endless list of corporate perks, we do offer an exciting environment where you can take responsibility, grow, and make a real impact.

And if you like good coffee, that’s definitely a plus. :)

We’re looking forward to your application and getting to know you!
